Obituary of Margaret Helen Krawczuk

Margaret Helen (Elgin) Krawczuk, 76, of Loveland, CO and formally of Dubuque, IA transitioned peacefully on Saturday, February 17, where she was surrounded by her family in prayer.

Services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N Lincoln Ave. Loveland, CO 80538 and on Saturday, April 27, at St. Raphaels Cathedral, 10:30 am 231 Bluff. St Dubuque, IA.

Margaret was born on November 17, 1947, in Farley, IA to Peter and Florrine (Potts) Elgin. She was baptized at St. Clement Catholic Church in Bankston, IA. where she attended primary school. She then went on to St. Joseph’s of Farley, IA for secondary schooling. After graduation, Margaret followed her calling and joined the Sisters of the Presentation. Upon leaving the convent, where she began her teaching career, Margaret met and married her lifelong partner of 50 years, Ferdinand Walter Krawczuk and had three children, Melissa, Matthew and Emily. While teaching, Margaret went on to receive her master’s degree in religion from Loyola University in the New Orleans LIMEX program. She taught for many years in the Catholic School system in various capacities, with her longest tenure at Wahlert Catholic High School in both the English and Religion Departments.

Margaret then went on to work for the Archdiocese before retiring and moving to Colorado to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid member of the church and spent most of her life in some capacity that found her close to her God in many ways. These were reflected in her religious education teachings, her time spent as sales representative and Managing Editor for Harcourt publishing and Director of Religious Formation for the Arch Diocese before retiring. Margaret then went on to teach various online religious classes for Dayton University throughout her retirement.

Margaret lit up the room with her bright light and faith and spent her days spreading God’s word through her action towards everyone she met, teachings in the classroom, involvement in weekly masses, online university classes and many years serving the Dubuque Community. She was a walking angel and spread her wings wide to support her family and friends. Faith, hope and love were her core foundation to the woman she was. A woman of gentle kindness. Who welcomed all of god’s children to her table without judgement. Her smile was like no other. It lit up the room like the wings of a butterfly, unique and beautiful with their flowing grace.

Margaret spent many of her days supporting her family, most recently including various sporting events like football, track, and volleyball or choir concerts for her grandchildren Ashley, Eli, Gavin, Luella and Kaden. She loved to watch tennis, Iowa basketball, Colorado School of Mines Football and recently took on a love for the Kansas City Chiefs who won a Superbowl in her honor.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Ferdinand Walter (Wally) Krawczuk, oldest daughter, Melissa (Eric) Myers and youngest daughter, Emily (Jason) Akers and daughter-in-law, Mary (Matthew) Krawczuk. Her grandchildren, Ashley, Elijah, Luella and Kaden. Three siblings: Joanne Childers, Joyce (Silvius) Neumann, Dan (Grace) Elgin; in-laws: Betty Elgin, Andrea (Bill) Klaren: and a plethora of nieces and nephews and vast circle of friends.
