Obituary of Millie Inez Ternasky

Millie Ternasky, 92, of Loveland passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on the afternoon of January 8^th. Millie was born in 1931 to Dora Belle Malone and Horatio Schertzer in Cleveland, Oklahoma, but she spent most of her formative years in Rawlins, Wyoming. 

Millie was predeceased by her partner of 30 years, Christine King; her former husband, Peter Ternasky; her grandson, Ryeland Ternasky; and her son, Scott Ternasky. 

She was the mother of six children and the grandmother and great grandmother of an extended family.  Millie’s children and their spouses: Greg and Kim of Springfield, Missouri; Kara and Kent of Boulder, Colorado; Scott and Connie of Ft Collins, Colorado; Nick and Pam of San Clemente, California; Stephanie and Gary of Carmel, Indiana; and Lance and Willa of Avon, Illinois.

Millie was an adventurous, artistic soul.  She experimented with places and professions, meeting fascinating people along the way.  Though she spent the last two decades in Colorado — much of that at the Mirasol Senior Community in Loveland — she lived most of her life in California, including Baja California, where she and Christine spent memorable years living and working in San Felipe.  

Millie tried her hand at professional lawn care, landscaping, and home rehab.  She and Christine raised small animals for various commercial enterprises.  And while Millie may be best known as a successful real estate agent, many would count her award-winning pie baking as her greatest accomplishment.  Her booth at the San Felipe farmers market always sold out in hours.   In later life, she enjoyed baking for Mirasol events and residents until arthritis made the endeavor too challenging.  

Faith was centrally important to Millie.  She spent countless hours in prayer, study, and reflection and was actively involved with the Metropolitan Community Church of Ft Collins and later with the Foundations Church of Loveland.  She was an accomplished amateur thespian and performed in a number of local productions.  Along with editor-in-chief Sue Mendenhall, Millie served as beat reporter for the Mirasol newsletter — a publication that is still sorely missed in the community.  As all her friends know, she loved to play Scrabble and garden.  Every summer, she anxiously awaited the first, ripe Cherokee Purple on the vine next to her patio and her Prairie Sunflowers.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Loveland Public Library, the Harrington Arts Alliance, or the House of Neighborly Service in Loveland.
