Obituary of Anthony Wayne Mutzbauer

Anthony Wayne (Tony) Mutzbauer entered this world January 15, 1972 via Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton IL. His parents are Barry W and Nancy (Sweeton) Mutzbauer. Tony met his father in April of 1972 when Barry returned from his service in Vietnam. Tony exited this world December 19, 2023 in Loveland CO via acute cardiac arrest and Type 1 Diabetes while preparing to come home and see his family.

 

Tony is survived by his wife Wendy Mcilvride of Vienna, ME, his pride and joys - daughters Erica (Sean) Wood of St. Louis, MO, Anna (James) Bernal of Raleigh, NC; his brother Brett (Jill) of Dawson, IL and his favorite niece and nephew Claire and Emmett Mutzbauer (who he tried to influence with wild gifts). The Mutzbauer side includes Uncle Jerry and Aunt Paula Peebles of Brighton, IL, Uncle Keith Mutzbauer of Jackson, TN; Cousins Jami (Paul) White of Murfreesboro, TN, Steven, John and Kevin Peebles of Brighton IL. The Sweeton side includes: Uncle Randy and Aunt Linda Sweeton of Rock Port, MO and Uncle Kevin Dinsdale of Bolivar MO;  Cousins Lynda Sweeton of Liberty, MO, Randi (Jed) Battson of Sedalia, MO, Ryan (McKayla ) Sweeton of Independence, MO and Robert (Ashley) Sweeton of Columbia, MO. The final listing is his parents Barry and Nancy Mutzbauer of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his aunt – kindred spirit Maralee (Sweeton) Dinsdale of Sedalia, MO and grandparents Ralph and Mary Sweeton of Rock Port, MO and Joseph and Mildred Mutzbauer of Medora, IL – All influenced his life in meaningful ways.

 

We cannot forget his cats Romeo and Beef who have to be the most well-traveled cats in history. He had to earn his welcome when he returned home from his travels.

 

Tony loved the country and to hunt and fish. His last home in Maine was his favorite – he hoped to snag a bear! His early years were spent in Medora, IL and the move to Riverton IL, was too citified for him. He graduated from Riverton High in 1990 and from there he went everywhere. He loved the military and was proud to serve his country as both grandfathers and uncle had done. He was especially proud of his father’s  Vietnam service. He joined the army and went to jump school. It was one of his proudest achievements. It was an honor on the day of Tony’s graduation jump for Barry to be able to pin Tony’s Parachute Wings for the 82^nd Airborne at Ft. Benning, GA.

 

When he left the army he drove from coast to coast as a long haul trucker finally settling in SC as a Superintendent in Construction where he found his niche in government contracts and then the private sector. He had projects in CA, KS, ME, TX and the last in CO.

 

Knowing Tony was like being on a roller coaster. The ups and downs left you breathless. The iphone was invented just for him – no matter where he was or what time of day he would be calling or texting every day. When it went silent we knew he was gone.

 

Cremation rites will be accorded. Per Tony’s rambling ways some of his ashes will be scattered in NW MO, Medora, IL and Maine with his final resting place at Camp Butler National Cemetery – the date to be announced soon.

 

In lieu of flowers be kind and help someone in need. Tony was blessed by a lot of good people in this life. If you wish to donate the American Diabetes Society would be a good place to help end this insidious disease.
