Obituary of Matthew Frank Chesson

Matthew "Matt" F. Chesson, age 92, of Berthoud, Colorado died Wednesday, December 13, 2023, peacefully at home. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Matt spent time living in Cheektowaga, Lancaster and Orchard Park, N.Y. before retiring to The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida. He later moved to Berthoud, Colorado to live with his daughter, Susan. Matthew was a retired civil engineer for the New York State DOT where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a past member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL, and served as an altar server. He then became a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish in Loveland, CO. Matt served in the US Air Force in the early 50’s and was a member of the American Legion for more than 62 years. He enjoyed his time as a member of the Villages Musical Company, Polish-American Club, Western New York Club, and Seniors Bowling League, while living in The Villages. Matt enjoyed playing golf, darts, billiards, cards, travelling, word search games, and jigsaw puzzles. He really enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills football team play on TV. Matthew was a loving and wonderful son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. 

 

Mr. Chesson was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy (Szymanski) Chesson and his father, Stanley Ciesiulka, mother, Frances (Arkuszewski) Ciesiulka; brother, Thadeus Ciesiulka and two sisters: Freda Przybysz and Martha Swist. 

 

Surviving Matt are his children: Jeffrey (Laura) Chesson, Bedford, MA, Sharon (Tim) Cochran, Ft. Myers, FL and Susan (Carol Brown) Chesson, Berthoud, CO; Grandchildren: Colleen (Bryan) Ferris, Kathryn Chesson, Samantha (Connor) Marschall; Great Grandchildren: Maya Ferris and Tenley Ferris; his sister-in-law Kathleen “Kay” Ciesiulka and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Matt Chesson and his interment at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY will both be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish, are asked to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
