Obituary for Dorothy Jean Bush

We are sad to announce the death of Dorothy Jean Bush, age 92, of Loveland, Colorado. Dorothy passed peacefully on 20 November with family at her side.

Dorothy was born on 25 September 1931 to Carl and Jean Riefenberg in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from North High School in Denver then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology. After college she went to work for Continental Airlines, which was headquartered in Denver at the time.

On 1 September 1956 Dorothy married Donald Bush in Denver. Dorothy and Don had three children: Duane Bush, Darrell Bush and Donna Bush. They made a good life for themselves and their children and remained married until Donald passed away in September of this year, a total of 67 years together.

Dorothy and Don were avid square dancers their entire lives. They were very active in numerous square dance clubs from the Denver area and the northern Front Range. They were great ambassadors of square dancing, mentoring beginning dancers, assuming leadership roles in the various clubs, and doing whatever they could to ensure the viability and growth of square dancing in northern Colorado.

In addition to square dancing Dorothy was active in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts when their children were younger. Later on, she assisted in teaching learning disabled children at Pleasantview Grade School in Golden, Colorado.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Don earlier this year, and by her brother Richard Riefenberg. She is survived by her other brother Dave Riefenberg of Kittrich, CO and her sister-in-law Nadine Riefenberg of Parker, CO. She is also survived by her three children and their families: son Duane Bush and his wife Odile, son Darrell Bush, and daughter Donna Bush, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Loveland on Saturday, 16 December at 1:00pm. Her cremains will be interred with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetary at a later date.
