Harlene Cason

Obituary of Harlene Beth Cason

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Harlene Beth (Hutchinson) Cason. Harlene passed peacefully at home after a relentless fight with cancer.  A viewing will be held at Viegut Funeral Home on Friday, November 24th, from 4-6pm, and her funeral service will be on Sunday, November 26th, at 2pm at the First Christian Church of Loveland. The interment will be on Tuesday, November 28th, at 1pm. Family and friends who wish to attend the service are asked to wear clothing that represents Harlene: Valentine colors or flowers.

Harlene was born and raised in Sacramento, California.  She graduated from Grant Union High School as a cheerleader, played in the band, and roller skated with her brother.  Harlene attended college courses at the University of California Davis and used her skills in office management and bookkeeping/accounting work. Still, her favorite job was being a  mom and grandma. Harlene married the love of her life, Bruce Cason, in Davis, CA, on November 20, 1970.  They moved to Loveland in 1973, and it instantly became their home.

Harlene was involved in her community, from being part of the original Chamber of Commerce Valentine team to owning Surplus ’n’ Stuff, working with Dr. Norman Godding, DDS, Hall and Associates, Evergreen Tennis Courts, and K&L Construction.  She was a vital member of the First Christian Church for 50 years, participated in many groups, including the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and was the church’s resident garden caretaker.  She participated in Soroptimist International, The East Eisenhower Merchants (TEEM), and Girl Scouts.   Mom loved to ride with the 40+ motorcycle group and hosted the best Broncos watch parties for her friends and neighbors.  She loved to garden and her yard (and every yard she touched) looked like a magazine. She mostly loved being Nana! Her favorite time was spent with her grandkids traveling, camping, playing games, and doing crafts.

Harlene is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Cason; father, William H. Hutchinson; mother, Beth Hutchinson; and brother, Harold D. Hutchinson.

Harlene is survived by her daughter Melody B. Sullivan, of Loveland, CO; son Bruce D. Cason [Julie] of Fresno, CA; daughter Jill M. Gibb [Greg] of Lone Tree, CO; and Michelle B Rogers [Mitchell] of Dacono, CO. Eight grandchildren: Zach Sullivan, Jason Button, Tyler Cason, Maggie Quillman, Ally Gibb, Zoey Gibb, Lyla Rogers, Lincoln Rogers and five great-grandchildren: Braelynn, Lux, James, Lily, Jeffery, Deanna, and Colter.

Harlene's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Those who wish to pay tribute with a donation in lieu of flowers are asked to donate in her name to the First Christian Church of Loveland, Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
