Obituary of Peggy Chitwood

Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Cat Lover Peggy Jean has moved on to be with our Lord. While we will miss her daily. We find great comfort in knowing that she is in a better place and pain free.

A Celebration of her life will be held for friends and family on Sunday November 19th at 11:30 am at Peggy's home church, First United Methodist, 533 Grant Ave. Loveland.

Peggy was born in Denver, Colorado to Gene Aurther and Dorothy Louise Kimzey Chitwood shortly after the end of WWII. She was the first of 16 Grandchildren given to Gladys and Hershel Kimzey of Torrington, Wyoming and the 4th of 12 grandchildren for Addie and Aurther Chitwood of Canyon City, Colorado.

Gene and Dorothy lived for a few years in the Greeley Colorado area and eventually settled in the foothills west of Loveland, Colorado near Masonville.  Peggy was joined by 3 siblings Glen, Patricia and Louise who currently live in Washington, DC, Goodland, KS, and Longmont CO respectively.

Brother Glen noted that he never knew anybody to dislike Peggy with any intensity. “Although I teased her about being my little sister when I got taller than her, she will always have been my big sister. Peggy will be missed and I look forward to seeing her again in the afterlife. Her love of Cats was always a bonding or a shared moment for us.”

Sister Pat will also miss her “little” big sister very much. Pat and Eric started their family late in life and having Peggy around to take up the slack was a God send. For Pat, their shared love of Cats was a true tie that binds. Cats were a family trait passed down by Daddy Gene. No Chitwood home was without at least one feline member over the years.

Sister Louise remembers, “Having a big sister 13 years my senior was fun. At around age 11, I was excited to be able to go to her new studio apartment in Ft. Collins, be treated to Arby's and a drive-in movie, then spend the night with her.

Peggy was much loved by her family and friends. She was a devoted aunt and helped extensively in the raising of her 4 nephews, Charles, Jaime, Joseph and Jeremy. She has only one niece, Genesis, and there was very special bond between them. Nephew Charles has added to her joy with Great Niece Cassie and Great Nephew Jonas.

Peggy participated in water aerobics class two or three times a week for about 20 years. She had many close friends in the class and they went out to lunch after class once a month. She had 2 serious relationships during her adult life but chose to remain single and devoted herself to her Christian commitments, her career as a nurse’s aide, her family, her friends and her cats.
