Obituary of Thora E Stone

Thora E Duffield Stone, 93, passed away March 21, 2023. She was born at Roggen, CO, on February 7, 1930, to Ansel and Glenna Pricer Duffield.

Thora graduated from Keenesburg HS in 1948.  The next year she worked at the Denver Dry Goods store earning money to attend a semester at Colorado A&M. Then, as a bookkeeper for Greeley Savings and Loan, she met Edward Glenn Stone. They married on September 28, 1952, in Greeley, Colorado and had four daughters.

Thora was a full time homemaker, teaching her girls skills that have served them well. Memories include Mom reading stories, playing games, gardening, canning, and family camping trips. Mom was a Girl Scout leader and band parent. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law in their last years. Volunteering at House of Neighborly Service, HeadStart, elementary schools and church brought her joy, as did singing, travel, church mission trips, a Girl Scout sailing trip, and rollerblading with grandchildren.

Ed and Thora’s unwavering support of family leave us with traditions of gathering at holidays and family celebrations. Loving relationships were central to Mom’s life as she bonded with grandchildren, neighbors, church friends, then residents and caregivers at Good Samaritan Village her last six years of life.

Thora was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Glenn, brother Clyde, and sister Dolly. Survivors include sister Betty, four daughters, Linda (Tom) Warren, Nancy (Larry) Lewis, Trish (Tim) Brimmer, Becky (Mick) DeLavallade, four granddaughters, two grandsons, five great grandchildren, sister-in-law Ruth Stone and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Loveland First United Methodist Church, 533 Grant Street, on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 10:00 am. Reception following.
