Obituary of Michael Evans Persson

Michael Evans Persson, born June 10, 1949, passed away surrounded by family at his home on March 24, 2023 from heart failure.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Mike grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colorado and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967.  After earning a degree in History and Political Science from Western State College and a Master’s Degree in History from Colorado State University, he enjoyed a long career with Denver Public Schools, first as a classroom teacher and later as a network administrator.  Gifted in the use of computers, Mike was responsible for establishing one of the first school websites in the nation and was recognized for that achievement in “PC Magazine.”  His intellect and innate leadership propelled him to success in all that he endeavored, including his many coaching assignments, second career in real estate, and job as an internet technology instructor at local colleges and universities.

Though his accomplishments were many, Mike will best be remembered for his devotion to family and for his infectious laugh.  A man unafraid to love, he will be missed by those who knew him because his smile and good humor never failed to make those around him feel good.  As his health began to fail, he could no longer swing the golf clubs, work on his model trains, or pull trout from the stream below his beloved mountain cabin, but he was content and happy to be surrounded by his family and friends whom he loved dearly.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Algot and Florence Persson and infant sister, Patricia.  He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Joyce, and his children, of whom he was so proud:  son David, daughter-in-law Alissa, grandchildren Anabel and Samuel, daughter Ann Marie, and her partner Ryan Crawford.

In lieu of a traditional memorial service or celebration of life, Mike has requested a Requiem Mass attended by immediate family only and private burial of ashes.

To honor Mike and his personal concern for abused and abandoned children, memorial donations may be made to Mount Saint Vincent in Denver, Colorado.
