Obituary of Richard Dean Leverington

Richard D. Leverington “Dick”, age 96, passed away in Fort Collins, Colorado on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. He fought the good fight after 5 years of Alzheimer’s but is now with Mom again.

Richard was born July 22, 1926 in St Louis, Missouri. He lived in Maryland, Iowa, Texas and Colorado. Richard was a WW2 Veteran and was very proud of his service and his country. After leaving the Navy, Richard worked with antennas and various other electronics in Maryland and Washington DC. He met his wife there and were married in 1950 for a total of 69 years at the time of her passing 3 years ago. He was an engineer in every sense of the word and used the training from the service and college to begin a lifelong career with Collins Radio Company (Rockwell-Boeing). He loved utilizing his engineering skills for his projects and building things. He was a man of many talents and a prolific reader.

Richard was a quiet man, but his kindness and generosity spoke volumes. You will never meet a more selfless man. He always had a smile and a kind word for those around him. His strength was evident throughout his life, but especially so in the final battle with Alzheimer’s.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret H. Fisher Leverington “Peggy”, his parents, Louis Leverington and Margaret Leverington Phillips.

Richard is survived by his sister,  Virginia Marie Phillips Daves; his three sons Michael (wife Christine), David (and the Bears), Paul (wife Marthena), and his two daughters Sheryl (husband Glenn), Dianne (husband Joe); Grandchildren: Nick, Jamie, Josh, Alex (wife May), & Charles (wife Lara), 6 Great-grandchildren; Alyosha, Max, June, Caleb, Dylan & Emily Leverington; and many nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his family and never forgot his love for his family, not even once.

Military Honor’s Memorial will be held at the Pike’s Peak National Cemetery.

In his memory please consider donating to Alzheimer's research in the fight to end ALZ.
