Pam, so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. What a guy, fun, full of life, talented. So many fun memories of our visits to your ranch. He will be missed. I hope you and your family are well. Sorry I can’t make it to his service.

My mind stopped for a moment when I read Joe's name in the Obituaries. I had the good fortune to work with Joe at HP and always looked forward to a lively interchange. He was one of those people looked forward to seeing. (By the way, I love the photo you have included of him "appropriately dressed in cap and gown ... pure Joe.)
My heart goes out to you as you adjust to your new aloneness. It's different than being lonely. It's the turning to share a thought or memory ... and there is only silence. New routines will take time. May knowing how rich a life he lead help ease the transition.

I had the pleasure of knowing Joe for a few years (his final years) and playing music with him on more than a few occasions. We played a rollicking version of "Truckin" at a Guitar Circle gathering with Joe on saloon-style piano.
Joe was a heck of a singer, an excellent keyboardist, and he could weave a yarn. You take a car trip with Joe and he will hold up his end of the conversation with short tales and tall tales in that signature deep velvety voice. I enjoyed playing Grateful Dead songs with a man who saw the Dead in 1967-or-so in the Bay Area no less -- Summer of Love -- if I'm remembering the story correctly. I will miss this man -- a huge personality with a love of life.
