Ruby Kirby

Obituary of Ruby Margaret Griggs Kirby

On November 30, 2022, Ruby Margaret Griggs Kirby was taken to her Heavenly home that had been prepared for her by Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

Ruby was born on June 13, 1933, in Anor, South Carolina.  She moved to Florida for a short time and finally settled in West Columbia, South Carolina where she raised her family.

Ruby worked for Bell South Telephone for 30 years.  She retired in 1984.  She went back to school to learn to make floral arrangements, which she already knew how to do because she arranged flowers for weddings and church functions.  She did beautiful cross-stitching which she shared with a few.  Although she was humble and never thought she was a gifted artist, she also loved to paint and shared many of them with her friends and family.

After retirement, Ruby babysat her grandson, Kyle, so her daughter could return to work.  She treasured that time.  She also worked at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in the Day Care and volunteered to help with the lunches and art projects at Holy Trinity School.

In 1992, Ruby moved to Colorado with her sister, Frances, where she remained for 30 years.  During this time, she worked for Sam’s Club for 20 years where she met some of her closest friends.

Ruby loved her church, Prince of Peace, and the people with whom she worshipped.  She often cooked supper on Wednesday evenings before church for friends from church.  She also loved her home and the wonderful neighbors in Loveland.  She enjoyed traveling the country and the world visiting family and friends.

Although she will be missed, we are thankful that she is no longer in pain and is now able to walk in God’s presence.  Her life was a humble servant of God, who was always willing to help her family and friends.

Ruby will be missed and remembered by the people she loved including her daughter, Pamela (Lee) Hollowell; her son, Todd (Loralea) Kirby; her four grandsons: Kyle Hollowell, Zachary Kirby, Zechiel Kirby, and Zephan Kirby; her great-grandchild, Colton Hollowell; brother, Robert Griggs; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and her many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie Griggs; brother, William Griggs; sister Frances Youngman; niece, Vickie Jahaske; and her great-niece, Molly Jahaske.

Ruby’s memorial service in Loveland will be held at 2:00 pm on February 19, 2022, at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO followed by a celebration of her life in the reception area.
