Lucille DeHerrera

08/12/1928-11/26/2022

Lucille A. (Gonzales) DeHerrera, 94 of Johnstown, CO (formally of Loveland, CO) passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26th 2022. Lucille was born in Santa Fe, NM on August 12th, 1928 to Maria Roybal Montoya and Felipe Valdez. She was preceded in death b her parents Maria Roybal Montoya and Felipe Valdez, her son Felix L. Gonzales Jr. and her sister Dolores Taylor. Lucille is survived by daughters Nonda Elder, Angie Covais, Dolores Gonzales and Ruth Mayeda. Her surviving sons are Joe Montoya, Danny Gonzales, Ernie Gonzales, Eddie Gonzales and Leo Gonzales. Lucille is also survived by 20 Grandchildren, about 30 Great Grandchildren and multiple Great, Great Grandchildren.

Lucille was the “Rock” of the family. Family was always the most important part of her life. She was a great cook she made the best red chili enchiladas. Mom would make a stack of tortillas for each meal; our brothers would sneak one from under the table. As if she didn’t know!!

We don’t remember hearing her complain about what it took to take care of a home and 10 kids, even when she used a ringer washer and a wood stove, an outhouse, and no running water at one point.

She always had a quick funny come back! Everyone loved the witty humor she had.

She talked about her life and family from Santa Fe. She was very close to her grandmother, grandfather, and her sister. Her Best friend was her sister Dolores Taylor, they did everything together. They would call each other every day, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day!! When Mom moved to Denver, they would take the bus, neither one of them drove. Mom never drove a car in her life. (She walked a lot) we would tell her to step on the brake if the car started rolling, she would PANIC, Brake? Where is the brake?? She was such a good sport about it! (Shame on us!) The boys did their share of teasing her too.

After retirement, she loved to walk with her friends at Marisol and then they had breakfast together. She always helped her friends at Marisol, she would get the paper for her neighbor and loved to help get breakfast ready.

In 2015 she moved to Johnstown with her daughter. Her favorite pass time was watching TV with her dog Chewy by her side, sitting out in the patio watching the dog, birds and looking at the trees and flowers. She loved animals! She would love to take walks with her kids and talk about family!

This amazing woman will be greatly missed!!
