Obituary of Donna Jean Kahler

Donna Jean (Vawser) Kahler, 82, of Johnstown, Colorado went home to Jesus Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Donna was born on July 4^th, 1940, in Winner, South Dakota to Robert and Mildred Vawser. She was the youngest of a close-knit family with six children.

Donna was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She was loving, patient, and kind. Donna was a mother figure to many more than just her children. Family was her everything.

Donna met Herman Kahler, the love of her life, when their families moved off their farms into town about the same time. Donna and Herman were married February 16, 1958, and lived in Golden, Colorado after their wedding. They were married for more than 63 years, and their marriage was a true reflection of a strong Christian Marriage. They had six children beginning in 1958 with the last one being born in 1970. During their marriage they lived in Golden, Loveland, Lakewood, Wheatridge, Greeley and Johnstown, Colorado.

Donna loved reading and could often be found during the night leaning against the door jamb to let enough light into their bedroom for her reading. She loved birds and could mimic many different birds.   She also loved Polka music, plays and musicals. Scrabble was her favorite game, and she shared the love of the game with her mother.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Herman, her parents Robert and Mildred Vawser, brother Robert (Darlene) Vawser, brother Dale (Phyllis) Vawser, brother Richard (Elizabeth) Vawser, sister Phyllis (Billy) Pierce, sister Lois (Tom) Atteberry.

Donna is survived by son Geoff (Trish) Kahler, son Garth (Audrey) Kahler, son Richard (Shawna) Kahler, daughter Caroline (Richard) Kenny, son Keith (Jennifer O’Neill) Kahler, son Dennis (Doris) Kahler, 20 Grandchildren, 9 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Church, 3920 S Shields Street, Fort Collins, CO 80526 on Friday December 9, 2022, at 11 AM.
