Gladys Wright

Obituary of Gladys Wright

Gladys Rita Wright, 88, died Nov. 6, spending her final days with family by her side.

Gladys was born Jan. 12, 1934 to Edward and Mildred Ledwith in New York City. While working as a secretary in Manhattan, Gladys went on a blind date with Thomas Wright, a college student studying business. The two hit it off instantly, and they married in 1955.

The couple moved to Long Island to raise their three children. Wanting an adventure and change of scenery, Tom and Gladys packed up their three children, dog, cat and popup camper and headed west to start a new life. They landed in Loveland, where they lived for several years before building their dream home in Masonville.

The couple retired in Arizona and spent many years traveling the world: Hong Kong, Russia, Europe, Mexico, Caribbean, and several states. While vacationing in Australia in 2003, Tom died of a heart attack.

Gladys later moved back to Loveland to live near family. She was an adored Nana to seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and she was well known in her neighborhood for walking her black poodle, Penny, that passed away four days before she did.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Tom, and her granddaughter Jessica Clark. She is survived by her three adult children: Julie Watts and husband Steve, Mary Depperschmidt and husband Darrell, and Ed Wright and wife Melissa.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 2-4 p.m. at Marianna Butte Clubhouse, Loveland.
