Doris Bohl

Obituary of Doris Ann Bohl

Doris Ann (Schuetz) Bohl of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on October 16, 2022, after ninety fulfilling years. She was born to Hermann Georg and Louisa Anna (Loehnig) Schuetz on a farm outside of Carroll, Nebraska and was the second of seven children. The family moved to a farm near Winside, Nebraska, where she spent most of her childhood. She overcame polio as a child although she continued to have side effects all her life. Doris graduated from Winside High School and then attended Wayne State College where she received her teaching certificate. Then she taught kindergarten through eighth grade for several years in one-room schoolhouses in Wayne County Nebraska.

Doris met Vernon Gustav Charles Bohl on one of her trips to visit family and friends in Hermann, Missouri. They were married on September 25, 1954, in Stope, Missouri and were together for thirty years. They raised three children: Karen, William, and Robert. Vernon worked as a meteorologist for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and his career led them to move from St Louis, Missouri to Washington, DC and then to Maryland. Over the many years she spent in Maryland, Doris worked as a substitute teacher and then in retail, eventually retiring from Safeway Foods. Doris loved music, sang in the church choir for many years, enjoyed dancing, and later developed a strong interest in bluegrass music. She also loved cards, bingo, and puzzles.

After retiring, Doris moved to Loveland, Colorado to be near her children and three brothers: Virgil, Larry and Lyle Schuetz and their families. She attended First Congregational Church in Loveland.

Doris was predeceased by her parents Hermann and Louis Schuetz and brothers Everett and Virgil Schuetz. She is survived by children; Karen Walker of Clarksburg, MD, Bill and Colette Bohl of Jupiter, FL, Bob and Shannon Bohl of Ft Collins, CO, grandchildren; Ryan and Jessica Walker, Adam Walker, Lauren and Steve Skeen, Garret Bohl, Trent Bohl, Jack Bohl, Drew Bohl, and great grandchildren; Evelyn Skeen, Caleb Walker, Emily Skeen, James Walker, and Grace Skeen.
