Ruth Lewis

Obituary of Ruth Marie Lewis

Ruth Marie Lewis, 68 of Berthoud, Colorado went to be with the Lord in the early hours of October 2, 2022.

Ruth was born on August 5, 1954 in Los Angeles, California to Irene Jackson. Ruth spent most of her childhood growing up in Boise, Idaho. She was a very active child who enjoyed meeting and hanging out with friends, staying up on the latest fashion trends and LOVED music. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, she was very much a “Hippy”.  This continued through all her school years. She attended Garfield Elementary, East Junior High and Boise High School. Ruth moved to Colorado in 1974.

Ruth was known throughout her life for her love of family and friends. She devoted her life to her family and her work. She worked at various places, but she found her “work home” at Celestial Seasonings. She spent over 25 years at Celestial, making many lifelong friendships along the way. She was always there anyway she could be for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, their friends, her siblings, and anyone who needed it. She was a selfless soul who never met a stranger.

Ruth loved to fish. She always seemed to be able to find that one fishing hole and out fish all her family even if we were sitting right next to her. Her dad Ira Jackson made her first fishing pole from a branch and string and though she was not thrilled with her first fist, she was hooked ever since. Ruth loved to camp, hike, and go for rides. She just loved to be in the mountains and the outdoors. Though she did not hunt, she was very proud of obtaining her hunters safety card from her son who taught her. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her years including shopping especially for antiques and at flea markets. However, her favorite thing to do was to spend time with family. It never mattered what her family was doing, she wanted to be a part of it and always was. Through time, their hobbies often became her own. This included going to Broncos Games, youth sports events and even livestock shows to watch her grandsons in 4-H.

Ruth is survived by her children Shannon (Darren) Benter of Loveland, Co; Michael (Christina) Grooms of Windsor, Co; Angela (Ronny) Tuxhorn of Loveland, Co; her brother John McBride; her sister Maxine Brown; a grandson named Cory who she raised as a son, grandchildren Tony, Steven, Austin, Casey, and Haylie; and 3 great grandchildren Sammie, Titus and Tillian.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Irene Jackson; her sister Betty Tessler; and 4 infant siblings.

Ruth will be dearly missed by all that knew her, especially her family. She loved the lord and we know she is forever in his kingdom rejoicing in being able to be with her mom and other family members.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on October 11, 2022, at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado at 11:00 am, with a viewing preceding the service from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
