Obituary of Wayne Elroy Backencamp

Wayne Elroy Backencamp, age 78, passed away from an aorta rupture on 7-31-2022. Wayne was born Nov 1, 1943, in Holdrege Nebraska to Lillian and Clifford Backencamp. Wayne was baptized into the Methodist church in Holdrege Nebraska. He graduated from Holdrege high school and also went to Kearney state in Kearney Nebraska. In 1963 he went to work at Kans Nebraska, natural gas company. He married the love of his life Kayla Malone Backencamp on 3-14-1964.

In November 1965 his daughter Brenda Kay was born and in 1967 another daughter Tammy Lea was born. In 1969 the family moved to Loveland Colorado. Wayne worked for Red Dale coach company to develop the first mini motorhome. In 1971 Wayne went to work for Eastman Kodak, where he worked for 28 and a half years, retiring in 1999.

Wayne loved spending his time at their family cabin in Red Feather Lakes and enjoyed fishing and sitting around the campfire.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Clifford Backencamp, In-laws Melvin and Mildred Malone, daughter Brenda Kay Backencamp, and brother Jim Backencamp. Those remembering to celebrate his life are his wife Kayla, daughter Tammy Lea Matthews (Mike), Brother in-law and sister in-law Bev and Ken Claypool, granddaughters Chantell Matthews, Ciara Gilzean (Tyler), Jessika Backencamp Watson and her father Rande Watson, and many nieces and nephews, along with sister in-law Nancy Backencamp, sister Joyce (Jim) Anderson, and many close friends. Wayne Backencamp was truly an amazing man and will be missed dearly.

Wayne Backencamp’s Memorial service will be on Saturday, August 6^th, 2022, at 1 PM. The service will be held at the First Christian Church.
