Obituary of Carl Norman Olson

Carl Norman Olson passed away at the age of 86 on May 24, 2022 in Loveland, Colorado.  Norm was born on July 22, 1935 to Axel Emanuel Olson and Betsy Johanna Jonsson in Victor, Colorado, the sixth of seven children.  After graduating from Victor High School in 1953, he went to CSU for a year, but finding it not to his liking, entered the workforce.

As a young man, Norm brought home a derelict Model T, to which his dad said, "why did you bring home that piece of junk?"   Norm proceeded to fix up the Model T, later taking many family members for rides, as well as running it in local parades.   It is now something of a family heirloom.

Norm had a severe leg injury early in life, which the Molly Mayfield Foundation helped with medical bills.  He always noted he never saw the fact he walked with a limp as a deterrent to doing what he wanted in life.  Early in life, Norm was an active member the Elks and the Masons.

He met his first wife Joanna, and they wed in the mid-1970s.  Joanna brought daughter Dianna into the marriage from her first marriage.  They lived  in Lakewood, Colorado.  He worked at Coors for a while, then at Jeffco Schools.   In about 1982, Joanna passed away.

In 1983, he met Jo Ann Hogg (Montgomery), and they wed in 1984.  She brought two children into the marriage from her first marriage, Kevin Dean Hogg and Mindra Lynn Hogg.  The lived in Lakewood, Colorado until his retirement from Jefferson County School District n 1991, where he had worked as a utility specialist since 1974.  He and Jo were snowbirds for several years, back and forth to Tucson, Arizona, until finally moving to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2000.  In 2012 they moved to their present residence in Loveland, Colorado.

Norm was also a passionate woodworker and could often be found in his shop turning out all sorts of bowls and other crafty things on his Shop Smith.  He also loved to play softball and played on a league for several years.  According to Norm, his credo was, "accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things you can, and hopefully have the wisdom to know the difference."

Norm was predeceased by his first wife and adopted daughter, two brothers and two sisters.  He is survived by his wife, two step-children and their four children and four grandchildren, as well as two sisters.
