Alan grew up in Bartlesville OK, graduating from College High in 1962.  In 1966, he moved to Gunnison CO where he attended Western State College until 1973.  While at WSC he was one of the charter members of the Western State College Search & Rescue and a senior level member of the National Ski Patrol, patrolling for Crested Butte and Monarch Pass ski areas between 1968 and 1972.

He loved the out of doors and was an avid fisherman, traveling to fish new waters and enjoying saltwater fly fishing in the Texas gulf and the Bahamas.

He was also passionate about music and was known to ask anyone he met “do you play music?”.  Over the years he played with several groups on the western slope.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, his daughters, Caroline and Mary, his sister, Caroline Johnson, and stepdaughters, Laura, Stephanie and L Kimberly.  He is predeceased by his parents and his son, Edward Sutton.
