Celebration of Life of Arthur E Bloemendaal

Arthur (Art) E. Bloemendaal passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 19th , 2022, following a brief illness.

Art was born to John and Irene Bloemendaal on August 7, 1932, in Northwest Iowa.  As a young boy, his family moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota where they settled and established the family farm.  Art attended school in Lake Wilson graduating high school in 1950.  Following high school, Art remained on the family farm and was actively engaged with the farming operation with his father and brother.

In 1956, Art met his life partner, Cleo (Chloe) Erickson while roller-skating in Pipestone, Minnesota.  Following their courtship, they were married on June 7, 1958, in Luverne, Minnesota.   The couple moved to Orono, Minnesota area where they continued their education and started their careers.

Art attended the Minnesota School of Business and received a degree in accounting.  He then pursued and received his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.  Art’s accounting career spread over a span of thirty-six years where he worked for various businesses and in time established his own CPA firm, “Carlson, Bloemendaal, and Rollie”.  The firm had close connections with many respected family businesses in the Twin Cities area.  Art enjoyed meeting people and touched the lives of many who needed accounting help and advice.

Art and Chloe developed a strong love for golf and found it a wonderful way to get physical exercise.  They also enjoyed dancing and attending the theatres throughout their years together.  Travel was a passion they shared, and they took many trips together.  They traveled to Europe a couple of times and had the pleasure of golfing at the “Old Course” in Edinburgh, Scotland.  Art enjoyed researching various topics,  was always learning, and kept current on local, national, and public affairs news.  He loved to converse with people, always had a smile, and engaged others in conversation making sure everyone had a chance to talk. He was always concerned about the welfare of others.

After retirement in 1994, Art and Chloe moved to Austin, Texas, where the couple resided and enjoyed playing golf year-round.  In 2004, they thought it was time to move to the mountains and chose to reside in Loveland, Colorado.  They continued to enjoy golfing, making trips to the mountains, and especially enjoyed spending time in Estes Park, Colorado.

Art blessed the lives of many and will be greatly missed.  Art and the memories made will be held closely within the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Art is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Chloe Bloemendaal; sisters-in-laws, Lorna Lorenzen, Marlene Erickson, and Jeanne Woodley; many nieces and nephews; and their dog, Stacy.  Art was preceded in death by his parents John and Irene Bloemendaal; brother Fred Bloemendaal; sisters-in-laws Phyllis Bloemendaal and Beverly Woodley; brothers-in-laws Verdell Lorenzen, Roger Erickson, and Ed Woodley; and nephew Darrell Lorenzen.

Memorial gifts can be made, in Art’s memory, to the Larimer County Food Bank and Larimer County Humane Society in Colorado.
