Obituary of Jerry Allan Gray
Jerry Allan Gray passed away at the age of 78 on January 6, 2022. He peacefully left this world in the home he built with his own hands, while surrounded by those he loved, after a lifelong battle with lung disease and the ravages of lingering illness.
Jerry was born on November 4, 1943 to William and Betty Gray of Torrance, California. He attended local schools, and graduated from Gardena High School summer class of 1961. Thereafter, he gradually worked his way to the top of his profession as a master machinest.
After meeting the love of his life, Joyce, on a blind date arranged by a friend in 1962, he began his lifetime journey with her. They married in the Torrance Church of the Nazarene on August 24, 1963. After pursuing further job opportunities and educational experiences in California, they moved to Colorado in 1977 with their three sons (Dan, Tom, and Steve). Jerry chose the city of Berthoud as the location to personally design and construct his lifelong home.
Retiring after 20 years with ACX Technology, he was able to immerse himself in his love of sports, travel and history. He loved baseball (the Rockies), football (the Broncos), Golf (Mariana Butte) and Bowling (numerous bowling leagues, trophies, and awards). Together with Joyce, he traveled throughout the world. He especially loved the beauty of the Tahitian islands, the haunting magic of Mesa Verde, and the somber experience of a visit to the Normandy beaches on the anniversary of D-Day.
Jerry will be missed by all who knew him. His spirit and humor reflected the traditions of a warm Christian gentleman. He found great inspiration in observing that his talents and interests were continued by his children and grandchildren, and thrilled seeing that he had passed on his talent as an accomplished guitarist, and his love of all music, literature, and history.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce, his three children (Dan, Tom, and Steve), his five grandchildren (Wesley, Ben, Morgan, Mallory, and Jeremy), and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. His beautiful spirit of love and faith will always be with those who knew him.
Due to the resurgence and uncertainty of Covid, a private family memorial has been held, and a more inclusive gathering for the celebration of his wonderful life will be planned later this year.
