Obituary of Thomas Michael Wadena

Thomas Michael Wadena was born on June 24th 1958 to Audrey and Thomas Wadena at Winnebago hospital, in Winnebago, Nebraska. He was the fourth oldest out of 8 siblings. His demeanor was silly and always joking, delighted to make you laugh! He was known for his talent in creating beautiful and elaborate beadwork and regalia. From the Ojibwe tribe and the Buffalo clan. Thomas had not only mastered this beading, but was truly gifted in contributing to the arts and traditions of his people. He was searched for not only his work but in his dancing at the endless Pow wows he participated in. He loved to share his culture with the world and was always able and willing to do so in presentations of all sorts. The pride that Thomas took in honoring his Native American heritage shaped his role that he played amongst this earth and he will forever be remembered for the heart and soul that he poured into it. When he wasn’t working hard, beading and sewing, he was helping his mother out. He lived with her and took care of her, always by her side, she found a best friend in his companionship. In 2018 Thomas was diagnosed with cancer and his health as he knew it was to be drastically affected. Two years into being diagnosed and upon receiving treatments, Thomas’ cancer began to take a toll for the worst. The cancer had begun to affect his bladder and kidneys and the treatments he was receiving were doing more damage than help. He was put into surgery shortly after but his progression afterwards was minimal. It was after this point the cancer took a turn for the worst and our beloved Thomas began to fall quickly. He was hospitalized at Poudre Valley hospital and shortly after that put into Hospice. On January 15th, 2022, around 4:30, Thomas Michael Wadena took his last breath. His mother at his side every last day. The dear loss of a mother to mourn her own and lay to rest her dear son. His return home has begun and his body rests in peace. It is in these moments of hardships and sorrows that the Lord allows us to grow closest to one another.... As our family draws near, we ask for the help and support of our loved ones and of our people to lay to rest in proper burial our very own Thomas Wadena. His brief passage on earth was simple and sweet, and he will be missed dearly by the many lives he influenced. His talent shown bright in all the beautiful master pieces he created in his wake. It's been a great privilege to see him dance and honor our people, Kind and Loving, Authentic and indigenous, survived through the many loving memories! We Love you Uncle ...
