Obituary of Helen Louise Harms

The Lord called Helen home on Christmas, December 25, 2021. She is reunited with her husband, Glenn, who went to Heaven three years prior. Helen was born February 3, 1940 in Wichita, KS to Jacob and Lucy Janzen. She trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was a child. Her life was forever changed and showed the love of Jesus to everyone she crossed paths with. She graduated from Business College in Wichita, KS. Helen met the love of her life, Glenn Harms, in Newton, KS at a Youth for Christ meeting in 1958. Glenn and Helen were married February 20, 1959 in Newton. In the following years, Glenn and Helen were blessed with a son and a daughter. They worked at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX as dorm parents. While there, Glenn felt the Lord calling him to preach. They moved to Denver for Glenn to receive his bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies at Western Bible Institute. While there, Helen worked as a bank teller and church secretary supporting her husband through college. In 1969 Helen, Glenn, and family moved to Chadron, NE for Glenn’s first pastoral position. In 1971 the Lord was tugging at Glenn’s heart to plant a church in Loveland, CO. The family moved there and founded Foothills Baptist Church on September 19, 1971 with the help of South Sheridan Baptist Church in Denver, CO. She was a Pastor’s wife and faithfully served next to her husband for 30 years. She taught Sunday School throughout the years, had a beautiful soprano voice which she used for the Lord, and always had a caring and gracious heart. While serving at church, Helen also worked a variety of jobs with the County, school district, and 15 years at Hospice. When Glenn retired from the ministry, they became snow birds in Arizona. Helen enjoyed playing Phase 10 with her friends and going out to eat with her Red Hat Society gals. When Glenn went Home to be with the Lord in 2018, Helen moved to Windsor and found a new community of friends where she was dearly loved. She attended Bible Study in her community on a regular basis and participated in almost all the activities especially the potlucks! She loved playing Bingo with her friends and keeping up with the latest politics and weather. Church was a highlight for her life, and she was a member of Front Range Baptist Church. Everywhere Helen went, she left a meaningful impact. She had a contagious smile and loved life fully. Helen is survived by two children, David (Ann) Harms, Debbie (Rick) Davis, grandkids, AnnaMae (Nathan) Shane, Ellie (Garret) Youngson, Jonathan Harms, Rebekah (Nick) Miller, Emily (Andrew) Jones, and seven great grandsons, and beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding Helen in death were her parents, brother, Fred, beloved sister, Frieda, and the love of her life, husband, Glenn. A Celebration of Life service will be held December 31, 2021 at 1 pm, Front Range Baptist Church, 625 E Harmony Rd, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
