Obituary of Elmer Gail Koops

Elmer Gail Koops of Loveland, Colorado went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Gail was born to Benjamin and Gertrude Koops on August 1, 1931 in Downs, Kansas. He had three older sisters. Gail graduated from South High School in Denver, then joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as a 1st Class Engineman. Gail married Martha Eunice Gesink on September 15, 1952. Together they had four sons. They later divorced. Gail was a devoted father to his boys. He attended the University of Maryland and received a Vocational Education teaching certificate. He spent his career working in landscaping and sprinkler system installation, teaching vocational electricity, and as an electrician for the Bureau of Reclamation and Western Area Power Administration. Gail moved to Loveland after he married Jean (DeNooy) Alsum on January 5, 1979. He was a committed member of Calvary United Reformed Church where he served on Council for many years. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking, attending Draft Horse events and visiting his family and his farm in Kansas. He is survived by his wife Jean, sons Karl (Kathy) Koops, Ben (Julie) Koops, Willis (Maureen) Koops as well as four step-children Hal (Barb) Alsum, Gary (Shar) Alsum, Karen Alsum, and Will (Cris) Alsum. As well as 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Koops earlier this year. A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 4 at 10 a.m. at Calvary United Reformed Church, 3901 14th Street S.W., Loveland, CO 80537.
