Obituary of Robert Lee Hite

Robert L Hite, Jr. Obituary Robert L. Hite of Loveland, Co. finished his journey on earth and went home to be with Jesus November 18, 2021. Bob was born July 25, 1933, at Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Robert L. Hite, Sr., and Wilma Meretta Scholfield. He was the 1st grandson born on both sides of the family! He grew up in Greeley, CO with his mom and in Hyannis, NE with his dad. After finishing high school, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict. He spent most of his Army time at San Diego, CA where he was an EOD specialist (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) – meaning he deactivated explosive devices. After the Army, he returned to the Greeley/Loveland area and began attending Colorado A & M College (now CSU) later transferring to Colorado State Teachers College (now UNC), earning a bachelor’s degree with two majors – industrial arts and history/political science and two minors in English and chemistry. Bob married Roberta Abbett in 1960 at Greeley. They became parents to sons, Steve and Allan. During this time they moved to Colorado Springs where Bob taught industrial arts to high school students. He left the teaching profession he loved to become a Master Electrician to better provide for his family. A few years later he began his lifelong career at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This challenging, difficult but most rewarding job was the perfect fit for Bob and he retired from FEMA in 1992. Retirement for Bob brought lots of new opportunities to help people. He moved to McCook NE and immediately became a board member of Habitat for Humanity there, again using his many talents to help people better their lives. He also became involved at the McCook Senior Center -cooking, presenting programs and leading the group. Bob returned home to Greeley in 2012, where he was adopted by a cute mutt he called Goldie from the Humane Society. Goldie was his companion for the rest of their lives – passing just two weeks before Bob. Bob is survived by sons Steve (Columbia Missouri) and Allan (Loveland), brother Dick Hite (Beverly),(Bradenton, Florida), Sisters Ruth Case and Mary (Lupe) Pena (Loveland); nephews Doug Ramirez, Roger Ramirez (Wendy), (Greeley), David (Helen) Ramirez and Josh Pena of Loveland, niece Lisa Pena (Loveland) . He is also survived by Aunts Jody Scholfield, Lou Scholfield, Helen Scholfield, and Margaret Lemon, as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by mother, Wilma Bath (stepfather John), father, Robert L Hite Sr.(stepmother Ada), grandparents and many aunts and uncles. Bob’s Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, November 24, 11:00 a.m., at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland. Reception to follow. Masks will be required for everyone’s safety.
