Obituary of Richard Alan Paul

Richard (Rich) Paul, 87, of Loveland, passed away on November 14, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society – Fort Collins Village. Rich was born in Newton, Iowa on January 24, 1934. He was a longtime resident of Loveland. He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Rich and his first wife had one son, Kent. Rich married Karen Elworthy in 1978. Karen had 3 boys, Shawn, Douglas and Dana, whom Rich adopted. Rich loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and hunting with his family, and was Shawn’s Boy Scout Master. He loved the scouting program. He was a great father to the boys. He returned to college at the University of Phoenix and received his Master Degree and became a Certified Public Accountant. Karen passed away in December 2011. Rich became great friends with Jean Renwick. They were married October 13, 2012. They both enjoyed their home at Park Regency, with their many friends. Rich and Jean moved to The Good Samaritan Society in Fort Collins in 2019, and Jean passed shortly after. During COVID, Rich had a great family, all the Employees of the Good Samaritan. Rich had a big heart. He was a very proud member of the Optimist Club. He served as President and the Treasurer for many years. Rich is survived by his sons, Shawn (Patty) Elworthy, Doug Elworthy, Dana Elworthy, and little Kent, 5 grandkids, 12 great-grandkids, and nieces and nephews. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Darrel and Lloyd, and his sister Mary Alyce, and nephew Tim Paul. Rich was a supporter of the Larimer County Humane Society. A celebration of Rich’s life will be held at 9:00 AM, November 20th, 2021 at the Elworthy Residence, 1072 Hawk Court, Windsor, Colorado 80550.
