Obituary of Calvin Edward Hanson

Calvin Edward Hanson, 96, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021, in Loveland, Colorado. He was born on the family farm September 17, 1925, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Wilford and Effie (Torkelson) Hanson. He grew up on that farm with five siblings who were all on the stubborn side and fiercely proud of their Norwegian heritage. He married Hazel Francis in 1948. They farmed near Alta, Iowa until they brought their young family into their forever home in Loveland in 1962. Calvin tried his hand at many things during his life. He was a landlord, sold farm equipment, built homes, worked in a hardware store, drove a truck, did HVAC work and machine maintenance, among many other endeavors. He always said his favorite job was sitting on a tractor working a field. In 1972, Calvin married Dena Willey in Loveland. With her three boys, his family was now complete. They made their home in the Big Thompson Canyon where they survived two devastating floods. They loved their grandchildren the best. Holidays were extra special, just for them, and included egg hunts at Easter, water fights on the 4th of July and Santa Bear at Christmas. Cal and Dee loved traveling and were always open to going anywhere at the drop of a hat. They saw much of Europe, the Caribbean and most of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. Calvin was proceeded in death by his parents and his siblings Roger, Wilma, Phylis, Wayne and Julius. He is survived by his wife Dena Hanson, daughters Martha Jurkofsky, Doris Kuhn, sons Edward and Paul Hanson and Donald, Lyman and Michael Wilkinson, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. There will be a graveside memorial service for our father at Lakeside Cemetery in Loveland, Colorado on November 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM.
