Obituary of Margaret Marie Mitchell

Margaret Marie Mitchell passed away in her home on Oct 23, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born June 9, 1934 in Rockland Michigan. After graduating Rockland High School she ventured south to Milwaukee Wisconsin for work and was employed by Gimball Brothers, the Milwaukee phone company and later, Motorola in AZ for a short time. It was in Milwaukee that she met and married her husband Henry and had two daughters, Dawn and Lillianne. In the early 1970’s they relocated to Mesa, Az where she resided until her move to Colorado over 25 years ago. Margaret could be described as witty, bright, youthful and young at heart. She laughed often and had a big personality. She lived on her own terms and mercifully died the same way remaining in her home until the end where she could watch her beloved birds, squirrels and rabbits frolic in the yard. To her music was more than a hobby or interest, it was her livelihood. She prolifically wrote poetry, music and played the organ and keyboards with proficiency despite never receiving any formal training. She would often show up for gatherings with her ukulele in hand to share a tune or two. Her other interests included gardening, as she could throw a seed out the back door and have it turn it into a plant. She was also an avid knitter and often sold her crafts and creations at markets and fairs. She also walked several miles a day until she could do so no longer. She has been a longtime member of St. John’s church in Loveland. She is preceded in death by her parents William George Hunt and Olga Marie Stefanich Hunt and her siblings Lilliann Margaret Hunt and Antone William Hunt and her husband Henry Eugene Mitchell. She is survived by two siblings Dorothy Victoria Van Develder of Rochester MI and Mary Mona Verch of Ashland Wi, several nieces and nephews, daughters Dawn Marie Mitchell Hanawalt and Lillianne Margaret Swisher, two son in laws, Kenneth Lloyd Hanawalt and Donald Patrick Swisher, four grandchildren, Daniel John and Jesse William Gehring, Danielle Marie Cohen and Summer Kathleen Martinez and three great grandchildren, Everett Maxwell and Kendall Jo Cohen and Robert James Gehring who all currently reside in Colorado. A memorial mass will be held at St. John’s church in Loveland with the date to be announced in the near future.
