Obituary of Charles Delbert Rodgers

Charles “Chuck” D. Rodgers of Loveland, CO passed away peacefully with family close by on February 21, 2024 at the age of 89.  He was born September 4, 1934 in Beverly, NE, one of two children born to Bert and M. Irene Rodgers. Bert and Irene divorced, and Irene married Paul Gaines. Paul raised both Chuck and his sister Shirley from a very young age.  Chuck lived in lots of places growing up, but finally settled in Boulder CO.  That’s where he met the love of his life, Wilma “Willie” (Helfrich) Rodgers.

They married in 1954 in Boulder.  Together they had two children, a daughter, Linda and son, Steven.

Chuck worked in construction all his life. He built custom homes in the Boulder area.  He built the family home in Boulder, where he and Wilma stayed for 52 years. Chuck had many talents. Besides being a skilled builder, he was also a great mechanic—there was nothing he couldn’t repair or figure out a fix for.  He was a knowledgable in the ways of farming and ranching, and was a natural horseman who led pack teams on mountain trails in and around the Estes Park area.

Chuck and the family loved camping and he built several campers that they would stay in almost every weekend during the summers. There was always some fishin’ going on if Chuck had anything to do with it.

After the kids were grown and out of the house, Willie finally convinced Chuck to take Country Swing lessons. Chuck never liked dancing until then, but he got good at it and after that they danced every chance they got.  I’m sure right now they are both dancing a two- step in heaven!

In 2011 Chuck and Willie moved from their longtime home in Boulder to a home in Loveland, CO, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They lived out the final years of their lives there.

For all his talents and abilities and a life filled with many great stories, Chuck will be remembered most as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him, but he will live on in our memories.

Chuck was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma, and his parents, Paul and Irene Gaines and Bert and Judy Rodgers.

He is survived by his two children Linda Disney (Dave) of Loveland CO and Steven Rodgers of Yoder WY ; grandchildren Clayton Nelsen and Dena Nelsen (Linda’s kids) and great grandson Sutton Nelsen (Clayton’s son).

Also his sister Shirley Bailey.
